New Enemy Assets [REUPLOAD]

Hello! Thought I’d poke my head in to give a quick update. Everyone is quite excited about the 3.0 update on the GBStudio Discord, and I’ve got to talk with so many other small developers/teams about their projects. I found three more very useful resources for enemy sprites that are free to use by gamebowgames and teaceratops and I also found a wonderful Gameboy Cartridge model + Box set made by leaftheif! I have seriously considered if it would be feasible to find a pixel artist who might want to work on this project with me and my team. My pixel art skills are still pretty rudimentary, its kind of embarrassing. Here are a few character sprites I updated recently for diagonal movement for the main character.

As Usual, Here's a link to the current dev video playlist on YouTube. There are no new videos right now as I have been mostly just testing the new sprite animation system in 3.0

The subreddit is r/darkforestgb. Current Population: still just me.

Currently the team includes:

-Myself

-A Writer

-A Composer*

One of the composers is getting pulled onto a *super secret* project and likely won’t be continuing to dev on Dark Forest any longer. The writer is pretty busy also with other projects but since the majority of her work has been completed for now, she’s mostly just waiting for me to finally finish importing all of her amazing dialogue so she can review it for flow/cohesion within a game UI setting.

Gameplay / Progression Update

While I haven’t actively been working on gameplay, I have been working towards porting the old dungeon scenes into the new 3.0 project. Diagonal movement also seemed to break from 2.0 into 3.0 so I’ll also have to take a look at that at some point as well.

Closing Notes

I’m wondering what sorts of places I could talk about Dark Forest on that might drum up some interest. I started this project because I really like the mystery-dungeon format, and it has definitely been something self-indulgent and specially made for *me*, but it would be really nice to have other people that follow the project and are excited to learn more about the story/progress towards a release.

I’m actually quite proficient in marketing/UA and market research since I do it a lot for my IRL day job, but I don’t want to treat this project as tactically as I do for projects at work. This is meant to remain a personal hobby project and I don’t want to get caught up in trying to *sell* Dark Forest, or the idea of Dark Forest hype on social media. I get a lot of joy from slowly bringing together all of the parts of this project, and making parts of this game with friends with complete creative freedom.  I don’t want to taint that. I dunno, just some thoughts I’ve been thinking about lately.
